It's 1927. Rich and irresponsible Jimmy Winter, having been ordered to marry a respectable woman by his indomitable mother, crosses paths with clued-up bootlegger Billie Bendix. Billie pretends to fall for Jimmy while filling his empty mansion with illegal gin, but her plan is complicated by Jimmy's determined fiancee and her teetotal aunt, the Duchess.
When through and through cockney chappie Bill Snibson learns that he is the 14th heir to the Earl of Hareford you could knock him down with a feather. There’s only one snag: in order to receive his inheritance he must gain the approval of Sir John and the Duchess. They think that with a little grooming he might pass muster – as long as he agrees to break up with his equally cockney girlfriend Sally Smith. “Not on your Nellie”, says Bill. So Sally has to secretly go to finishing school. But will it finish her off? Fiver, a new musical by Alex James Ellison and Tom Lees, follows the story of a humble five pound note as it passes through the hands and pockets of people in London. Reprising their roles from the celebrated studio cast recording, Fra Fee (The Ferryman), Christine Allado (Hamilton) are joined by Wendi Peters (Coronation Street, Salad Days) and a host of West End stars to present a concert performance of the acclaimed new British musical The Clockmaker’s Daughter.
Set in the fictional Irish town of Spindlewood, The Clockmaker’s Daughter is a musical fairy tale built around themes of prejudice, discrimination, animosity and a fear of the unknown. Like most towns of age, Spindlewood has its traditions. But no practice, custom or old wives’ warning is so firmly adhered to as ‘The Turning of the Key’.
